The Iron Route
The communities along the Iron Route in Upper Styria all have a long tradition of mining and processing iron. The Erzberg mountain is probably one of the best known tourist sights along this route.
But visitors to the Iron Route soon realise that this mountain is by no means the only attraction the region has to offer. The local communities and villages frequently host cultural events like the Leobener Kultursommer and the Festival St. Gallen.
The Iron Route is popular with visitors of all ages – not only for its traditions and history, but especially for its varied range of leisure activities. The mountains and rivers are an ideal playground for sports enthusiasts, offering the opportunity to go hiking, swimming, canoeing, rafting, climbing and paragliding. The valleys are also ideal for golf, fishing and horse riding. In winter, too, there is plenty of action in and around the towns as the skiers and snowboarders take to the slopes.
