Traditional dress in Eastern Styria
A corseted bodice is typical of many types of Eastern Styrian traditional dress. In some areas of this region, the bodices are made of material with a dotted or flower pattern, while the skirts are striped in blue or black.
At the border to Lower Austria, most Dirndls have a Brustfleck (corseted bodice with a gathered insert) in a small-checked pattern. In Fürstenfeld, the corseted bodice and Brustfleck has a red checked pattern. The bodice is combined with a skirt in a contrasting colour and pattern – in this case, this might be a dark blue, dotted fabric. This pinafore is worn with a plain blue apron. Eastern Styrian festive dresses are conspicuous for their simple charm.
Bodices and skirts of a single colour are worn with an apron with a delicate pattern in a contrasting colour. A silk scarf adds a touch of luxury to this ensemble.
