The Styrian Castle Route is lined with countless imposing edifices. Many of these architectural masterpieces are open to the public, though some still serve as private residences. However, all the castles are worth a visit, as the façades and gardens too are a feast for the eyes.

For visitors coming from the south, Schloss Kapfenstein near Bad Gleichenberg is the starting point of the Castle Route through Styria’s history. The Festenburg near Aichberg is the last landmark of Styria’s Castle Route, which leads past over 20 former residences of the aristocracy. Castles, albeit small ones, are particularly numerous in the region around Weiz.
