The Wood Route
Woodworking industries on the right track ...
You can’t go wrong with wood – and the Murau region is there to prove it. The Styrian Wood Route, which runs through this region, includes every imaginable aspect of this natural resource. Here in Styria, Austria’s most densely forested region, wood has been used for centuries as building material, energy source, and as raw material for musical instruments, toys and arts and crafts.
As an economic and cultural factor, wood was and is an inseparable part of life in Murau. And everyone likes it that way. The locals are proud of their wood and have created 27 stops along the Wood Route to showcase historical objects made of wood as well as modern attractions. Whether by bicycle, car, horse-drawn coach, by bus, or on foot, the Wood Route is a unique experience.
