Traditional costume in Southern Styria
Like all the regions of Styria, the Leibnitz and Radkersburg districts which make up Southern Styria have many different styles of traditional costume. The Wildon dirndl is presented here as an example of these styles.
The everyday dress in and around Wildon consists of a patterned pinafore in brown or blue (sometimes green). The middle of the bodice has an inset in a contrasting colour, which may be plain or of a dot pattern. The dress is worn with an apron in blue, brown or purple. Different types of blouse are worn with the dress depending on the season, the weather, and the occasion. However, like all dirndl blouses everywhere, it must be white.
The festive pinafores are plain red and are worn with a finely-patterned blue apron.
