La pantera stiriana...
| The Styrian panther ...
The 1950 law gazette describes the Styrian coat of arms as follows: „The Styrian coat of arms consists of a green shield on which a silver panther with red horns and talons is shown spitting fire.“ The panther coat of arms is attested as early as 1160, when it was used by Margrave Ottokar III of the Traungau dynasty. When Styria became a dukedom twenty years later, the Traungau coat of arms was transferred to the „Green Province“.
| Nell’anno 1260, l’aspetto dello stemma era molto simile a quello odierno. Già allora, il Maresciallo della Stiria, portava con sé un vessillo verde sul quale si poteva scorgere la pantera d’argento. Per quanto essa abbia poco in comune con un felino, in quanto, la testa è più simile a quella di un cavallo, la chioma e la coda sono leonine, le gambe posteriori irsute, mentre le corna sono simili a quelle di un toro e le zampe sono provviste di artigli; infine dalla bocca fuoriescono delle fiamme.
